ABOUT VICKY H CREATIVE

Vicky is a recent University of the Arts London graduate, having studied Costume Interpretation at Wimbledon College of Arts.

With a wide range of interests, from historical construction techniques to horror guts and gore, Vicky explores a variety of techniques and materials in her work.

Thorough research and experimentation underpin every aspect of the costumes Vicky creates, and she enjoys working out complex structural challenges that present themselves when attempting to interpret images that are based in imagination rather than reality.

Her most recent project 'Les Diner's Des Gala - Crayfish Centrepiece' is an interpretation of a Salvador Dali illustration found in his 1973 cookbook 'Les Diner's Des Gala'. Given the nature of Dali's work, the proportions and historical references within the image were not in keeping with reality. Problem solving and decision making were key to successfully realising this project. Historical patterning and techniques were explored and adapted, and alternative materials used to substitute traditional materials where necessary to make the structure stronger, or the weight of decoration lighter.

The finished piece is a fully wearable costume, with a 2.6m x 2m silver platter, four 1m long lobsters, seven prawns, forty crayfish and the bodies and severed heads of martyrs at its base.

Glorious!
